Skyrim

Skyrim – The Elder Scrolls 5

Skyrim is number five in the series of Elder Scrolls games from Bethesda. These games are a type of RPG (that’s Role Play Game, not Rocket Propelled Grenade!) that are highly immersive and dynamic. When the player enters the game, they are brought into a whole other world. The map is absolutely huge and allows your to roam anywhere on or off the beaten path. Venturing off the paths will lead you to hidden caves or ancient ruins where the player can find treasures, new foes, or new missions to play out.

The outside map is one continuous world with no loading screens or obvious boundaries. It ranges from sea level, right up to the snow covered peaks of mountains. The map is so huge that it would take you over 30 minutes just to walk in a straight line from one side to the other, and that’s assuming you do not get distracted by wild animals, thieves, or other characters on your way.

The map is also covered in sub-worlds which are loaded when you enter through a door or cave. These worlds are those such as the cities, individual buildings, or cave structures. Each of these are filled with unique characters, objects and missions that can keep you busy for days on end.

Time in Skyrim is also played out rather than jumping to specific times. If you stand outside, you will see the sun rise and set, the stars move over the sky, the weather change, all continuously and smoothly. For every minute that passes in your real world, about 20 minutes will bass by in Skyrim. You also have the option to wait, or sleep, and force the game to fast forward a number of hours.

Immersive GameplaySkyrim Night Moon

The game-play is highly non-linear compared to many other games. This means that as you walk around Skyrim you will encounter many people all with their own story and agenda. You can choose to get involved in their life, in any number of ways. For example; they may ask you for a favour which could lead you to a reward, or you could simply pick their pocket, take their house keys and steal everything they own! All the tasks and missions can be taken on at any time, allowing you to complete one task on the way to part of another. There are also main quests that will progress the game forward to its conclusion. These can be done as and when the player wishes, making the game totally unique for each player.

At the beginning of the game, you are given a choice of identity. You can choose from a number of races that live in Skyrim, and you can also customise many fine details of the characters appearance and personality so that your character is unique to your game. As you play the game the character will also develop skills that improve with use. You will need to hone these skills before visiting some parts of the map or attempting some quests as the enemies will be very tough! All these dynamic attributes create a highly immersive and dynamic game that can become very hard to stop playing!

Complex Objects

The objects you find in the world can be used in many ways. You can sell them, modify them, destroy them to get their raw value, and of course use them for whatever their usual purpose might be. There are various craftspeople in Skyrim who can help you repair or modify objects for a fee, or alternately you can use their equipment to do it yourself. The more you practice, the more skilled you will become, and the more valuable your finished objects will be.

Graphics Engine

The graphics offer stunning detail, and realism with dynamic lighting, water, and atmospheric effects. The large amount of vegetation and natural stone building makes a really nice smooth looking world with very little obvious pixelation.
